Description
A speed jump rope with ball-bearing handles and an adjustable steel cable, the conditioning tool every boxing coach keeps by the ring and every BJJ competitor uses for weight-cut cardio. The coated cable spins fast enough for double unders, the handles are light and textured so they do not slip when your hands sweat, and the length trims to fit anyone from 5 feet to 6 feet 5.
Why fighters choose it
Jumping rope builds the footwork, calf endurance and rhythm that striking needs, and it is the fastest cardio you can do in a garage. A speed rope differs from a playground rope in two ways: the cable is thin steel in a PVC coating, so it cuts through the air without drag, and the handles spin on ball bearings, so the rope turns smoothly instead of twisting. This one uses a lightweight aluminum and plastic handle with a grippy surface, a 3 meter cable you cut to length and a spare end cap. Ten minutes before class warms up ankles and shoulders; three rounds of three minutes at the end is a classic boxing finisher.
- Ball-bearing handles for smooth, fast rotation
- Coated steel cable, adjustable to your height
- Light textured handles that do not slip when sweaty
- Fast enough for double unders and crossovers
Fit and sizing
The cable ships at about 3 meters (10 feet) and is adjusted by loosening the end screw, pulling the cable through and cutting the excess. As a starting point, stand on the middle of the rope and bring the handles up: the handle tops should reach your armpits for beginners, a little lower for speed work once your timing is consistent. Cut in small steps, since you cannot add length back. Use it on a wood floor, rubber mat or smooth concrete; rough asphalt frays the coating.
Care
Coil the rope loosely after use and hang it; tight coils kink the cable. Wipe the handles dry and put a drop of light oil in the bearing if it starts to feel gritty. Replace the cable if the coating wears through to the steel.

FAQ
Why do boxers jump rope?
It trains footwork, calf endurance, rhythm and cardio at the same time, in a small space, with no equipment but the rope. It also warms up ankles, knees and shoulders before pads or sparring. Most boxing gyms start and end sessions with a few rounds of rope.
How long should a speed jump rope be?
Stand on the middle of the rope with the handles pulled straight up; for beginners the tops should reach your armpits, for speed work a few inches lower. Cut the cable in small steps until the rope just clears your head with a relaxed wrist turn.
Is a speed rope good for beginners?
Yes, as long as you leave it a little long at first and use it on a smooth floor. The thin cable stings more than a beaded rope when you miss, so start with single jumps and short rounds. Once your timing is steady, shorten the cable and try double unders.
Can I use a speed rope outside?
On smooth concrete or a rubber mat, yes. Rough asphalt and gravel wear through the PVC coating quickly and expose the steel cable, which then frays and can cut. Indoors, a wood floor or gym mat is ideal and much quieter, and a small rubber mat protects both the cable and the floor.
