Description

A boxing reflex ball is the cheapest way to train hand-eye coordination at home: a soft foam ball on an elastic cord attached to an adjustable headband, so every punch sends the ball back at your face and you have to slip it or hit it again. This set comes with the headband, an elastic cord and foam balls in two densities, one slower for learning the rhythm and one faster for speed work.

Why fighters choose it

Five minutes with a reflex ball before a session wakes up your reactions better than shadowboxing, and because the ball always comes back to the same point you are forced to keep your hands up and your eyes on target. It takes no space, fits in a gym bag and works in a living room or a hotel room. The headband is a stretch fabric that stays put at punching speed and the cord is elastic rather than string, so the rebound is consistent and the ball does not snap your head around. It is used by boxers, MMA fighters and kickboxers for warm-ups, and by grapplers who want to keep some striking timing.

  • Headband, elastic cord and two foam balls
  • Beginner ball and faster advanced ball
  • Trains reaction time, timing and keeping the hands up
  • Fits in a gym bag, no setup, no mounting

Fit and sizing

The headband adjusts to fit most adult head sizes and sits across the forehead. Position the cord attachment at the center of the forehead and adjust the cord so the ball hangs at chin level with the arms relaxed; a shorter cord means a faster, harder drill. Start with the heavier, slower ball and light taps with the lead hand, then add the rear hand and combinations before switching to the lighter ball. Keep the elbows in and hit through the center of the ball; glancing hits send it sideways.

Care

Wipe the balls with a damp cloth and hand wash the headband occasionally. Keep the cord out of direct sun, which degrades elastic, and check it for nicks before each use; a frayed cord should be replaced. Store it loose, not stretched.

FAQ
Does a boxing reflex ball actually work?

For hand-eye coordination, reaction time and the habit of keeping your hands up, yes, which is why coaches use it in warm-ups. It will not build punching power or teach technique on its own; it is a supplement to bag work and pads that you can do anywhere in a few minutes.

How do you use a reflex ball for beginners?

Start with the heavier ball on a short cord, stand relaxed and tap the ball straight with the lead hand only, letting it return to the same spot. Once you can keep a rhythm for a minute, add the rear hand, then combinations, then switch to the lighter ball for speed.

Can I hit the reflex ball hard?

There is no need to. The drill is about timing and accuracy, and hard punches just send the ball off line and back at your face faster. Light, precise taps through the center of the ball give the steady rhythm that makes the exercise useful.

Is the reflex ball good for MMA and jiu jitsu?

MMA fighters use it the same way boxers do. For grapplers it is a fun way to keep some striking timing and reaction speed between no-gi classes, and it takes no room in a gym bag. It does not replace striking classes or sparring.
