Description

Short sleeve rash guard in the Jiu Jitsu Black design: vertical JIU JITSU lettering and red 柔術 kanji over a cracked black base. The graphic is sublimated into the fabric, so it does not crack or peel where the shirt stretches over the shoulders.

This short sleeve BJJ rash guard is the no-gi staple for anyone who rolls in a warm gym: a polyester-spandex compression shirt with a sublimated print, flatlock seams and a hem long enough to stay tucked during scrambles. It is cut for grappling rather than running, which means a slightly longer torso, a snug chest and sleeves that end above the elbow so nothing bunches when you frame or underhook.

Why grapplers choose it

The print is dyed into the fabric, not screen printed on top, so it will not crack after a few months of washing. The fabric blend (about 88 percent polyester, 12 percent spandex) wicks sweat and dries in an hour on a hanger, which matters when you train twice a day. Flatlock stitching keeps seams flat against your skin, and the short sleeve cut leaves your forearms free for grip fighting and wrist control. It works equally well as a base layer under a gi jacket or on its own for no-gi and MMA classes.

  • Sublimated graphic that will not peel or fade
  • Four-way stretch for inversions and guard retention
  • Flatlock seams, no chafing under the arms
  • Dries fast between sessions

Fit and sizing

The supplier size chart maps M to a 38 inch chest, L to 40, XL to 42 and XXL to 44. These are athletic Asian cuts and the most common review complaint on this type of rash guard is that it runs small. Our advice: order the size you wear in a fitted US t-shirt if you like a tight compression fit, and size up if you are between sizes or prefer room to breathe. The shirt should sit flat against the chest with no loose fabric at the waist. If it rides up during rolling, go down one size, not up.

Care

Rinse or wash after every session; sweat left in polyester is what causes odor. Machine wash cold inside out, no fabric softener, no bleach, and hang dry. Avoid the dryer, which shortens the life of the elastane and dulls the print.

FAQ
Do you need a rash guard for BJJ?

For no-gi classes, yes: most gyms require a rash guard or fitted shirt so that loose fabric does not catch fingers and sweat stays off your partners. Under a gi it is optional but popular, because it keeps the heavy cotton jacket off your skin and cuts down on mat burn and skin irritation. One short sleeve and one long sleeve cover most schedules.

How should a BJJ rash guard fit?

Snug everywhere without restricting your breathing. The chest and shoulders should be flat against the skin, the hem should reach the top of your shorts with a little extra to tuck in, and the sleeves should not pinch the biceps. If you can grab a handful of loose fabric at the waist, it is too big and will ride up during rolling.

Can I wear it under a gi?

Yes. A short sleeve rash guard is the most common base layer under a gi jacket because it adds very little bulk and keeps sweat and friction away from your chest and shoulders. Check your competition rules if you compete, since some events only allow specific colors under the gi.

Will the print fade or peel after washing?

No. Sublimation prints are dyed into the polyester fibers rather than sitting on top, so there is nothing to crack or peel. Washing cold and air drying keeps the colors sharp for the life of the shirt. Heat from a dryer is what dulls sublimated graphics over time.

Short sleeve or long sleeve for no-gi?

Short sleeve runs cooler and leaves the forearms free, which many grapplers prefer for grip fighting. Long sleeve gives more protection against mat burn and skin contact during takedowns. Many people own one of each and pick by the temperature of the gym that day.
