Description

BJJ finger tape in the narrow 8 mm width that lets you tape a single joint without turning your hand into a mitten. Each roll is 10 meters of rigid cotton athletic tape with a zinc-oxide adhesive that sticks through sweat, tears cleanly by hand and comes off without leaving your knuckles sticky. Sold in packs of 3, 6 and 12 because every grappler runs out faster than expected.

Why grapplers choose it

Wide athletic tape has to be split lengthwise before it is any use on fingers; 8 mm tape is already the right width for the X pattern around a knuckle, the buddy tape between two fingers and the figure-eight on a thumb. The cotton backing is rigid rather than stretchy, which is what you want to limit the sideways bend of a sore finger joint during gi grips. It tears by hand at any length, so you can tape between rounds without scissors, and the adhesive holds through a full class of sweat. Climbers use the same tape for the same reasons.

  • 8 mm width, no need to split wide tape
  • Rigid cotton backing for joint support during grips
  • Hand-tearable, no scissors needed on the mat
  • Sweat-resistant adhesive, clean removal
  • 3, 6 or 12 rolls per pack

Fit and sizing

One roll is 8 mm wide and 10 meters long, enough for roughly 15 to 20 taped fingers depending on how many wraps you use. A grappler taping two fingers before every session will go through a roll every two weeks, which is why the 6-pack is the most popular choice and the 12-pack the best value per roll. Wrap with light tension, two to three turns above and below the joint for an X, and never so tight that the fingertip changes color.

Care

Store rolls in a dry bag or a zip pouch; humidity softens the adhesive over months. Remove tape after training, wash your hands and let the skin breathe overnight. If a roll gets a flattened edge, press it round again and it will tear normally.

FAQ
Why do BJJ players tape their fingers?

Gi grips put a sideways load on the finger joints that they were never built for, and the joints get sore and swollen over time. Tape limits that sideways movement, supports a joint that is already tender and lets you keep training while it settles. It is also used on the thumb and wrist after small tweaks.

How do you tape fingers for BJJ?

The most common method is the X pattern: anchor a wrap below the joint, cross over the back of the knuckle, anchor above the joint, then cross back. Two or three turns at each anchor is enough. Keep the tension light so the fingertip keeps its color, and tear the tape by hand rather than cutting.

What width of finger tape is best for jiu jitsu?

Most grapplers settle on 8 to 10 mm. Narrower than that and the tape does not support the joint; wider and it covers the whole finger and kills your grip feel. 8 mm is narrow enough for a clean X around one knuckle and wide enough to support the joint.

How long does a roll of finger tape last?

A 10 meter roll covers about 15 to 20 taped fingers. Taping two fingers before each class, three classes a week, uses a roll roughly every two weeks. Most people buy the 6-pack to cover a few months or the 12-pack to split with training partners.

Does the tape stay on when you sweat?

Yes. The zinc-oxide adhesive is the same type used in athletic trainer tape and holds through a full session. Press each wrap down firmly when you apply it, and tape dry hands; tape applied to wet or lotioned skin will lift at the edges no matter the brand.
