Description
MMA fight shorts in the Grey Serpent design: grey serpent scales with a round yin yang emblem. The graphic is sublimated, so it does not crack where the shorts fold at the hip.
MMA fight shorts need to survive two very different jobs in the same class: high kicks and knees on the pads, then takedowns and guard work on the mat. These training shorts use a lightweight polyester shell with a deep split side seam, a wide hook-and-loop waistband with an inner drawstring, and a sublimated graphic that stays sharp after a season of washing. No pockets, no zippers, nothing that scratches a partner.
## Why fighters choose it
The side split runs high enough that a head kick does not pull at the waistband, and the four-way stretch panel at the crotch lets you shoot and sprawl without the seam giving way. The shell is around 160 GSM, so the shorts stay light when soaked and dry on a hanger overnight. A wide waistband spreads the pressure of the closure and does not fold over in guard. Because the graphics are sublimated rather than printed on, the design does not crack where the shorts fold at the hip. They work for MMA, no-gi BJJ, kickboxing and general gym conditioning.
- Deep side split and stretch crotch panel for kicks and shots
- Wide hook-and-loop waistband with inner drawstring
- Light 160 GSM shell, dries overnight
- Sublimated graphic, no cracking at the folds
## Fit and sizing
Sizes M to XXL. The supplier chart runs small compared with US fight-shorts brands, by roughly one size: a 32 inch waist is an L here, a 34 an XL, a 36 an XXL. The waistband adjusts about two inches with the hook-and-loop and drawstring, so if you are between sizes go up and tighten. The inseam is about 7.5 inches in L, a touch longer than a pure grappling short, which keeps the thigh covered during pad rounds. Fighters who prefer a shorter, higher cut should stay with their usual size.
## Care
Close the fly before washing. Machine wash cold with similar colors, no fabric softener, hang dry. Avoid the dryer and the iron, both of which dull sublimated prints and wear out the hook-and-loop.

FAQ
What is the difference between MMA shorts and grappling shorts?
MMA shorts have a higher side split and a stretch crotch panel for kicks and knees, and usually a slightly longer inseam. Grappling shorts are often lighter and shorter. Both skip pockets and zippers. If your classes mix striking and grappling, MMA shorts are the more versatile choice.
How should MMA fight shorts fit?
Tight at the waist so they cannot be pulled down, with free movement through the hip for a high kick or a deep squat. The hem should clear the knee. If the waistband folds over when you sit, it is too loose; if the split pulls open when you stand, the shorts are too small.
Can I wear these for BJJ?
Yes. They have no pockets, zippers or metal, which is what BJJ gyms and competitions require, and the split seam gives full range for guard work. Many no-gi grapplers wear MMA shorts over spats as their everyday kit, and the slightly longer inseam keeps the thigh covered during leg entanglements.
Do the shorts have a liner?
No. Like most fight shorts they are unlined so you can choose between compression shorts, spats or nothing underneath. The inner waistband is soft and the shell does not chafe, so wearing them alone is comfortable in hot gyms. A liner would also hold sweat and slow down drying.
